September. The day is coming fast!

Well, the planning has kicked into high gear and Manda and I are spending our nights putting finishing touches on our wedding.  We are starting to get questions about logistics, so I just made some updates to our website.  Now is also a good time to read the Wedding Details page.  The ferry is operated by Casco Bay Lines, which is located right in the heart of Portland’s Old Port. (remember, we are providing ferry tickets at the terminal, so don’t buy any in advance) I have updated the maps to show the ferry terminal.  Remember, you must be there at 2:45, or you risk missing the wedding.  Here is a link to a great map of downtown Portland showing the major hotels and the ferry terminal.  For a key to the map, check here.  Here is a link to a Portland parking map (pdf) for those who need to stow their car somewhere in town during the wedding.

Four months and counting! Registry time.

Everybody have their hotel? Well, we just were up in Portland last weekend, and the Old Port hotel rooms are filling up quick for peak leaf peeping season, which corresponds to the weekend of our wedding. We visited all the hotels that we listed, and looked at individual rooms, so if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask!

We also spent some time putting together wedding gift registries at Crate and Barrel and REI (anyone want to help get us a new tent?). You never know - Manda may even get me to register at Lowe’s, but I haven’t got around to that quite yet. We are now also registered at Lowe’s.

A few hotel discount tips

Mar 7 : by Eric

A few people wrote to me with some hotel discount tips, so I wanted to pass them along. Use the coupon code 50AFFORB when booking through Orbitz, and you get $50 off a 3 night stay. This is confirmed to work at the Portland Regency.  Also, AAA offers discounted hotel rates (and also discount Amtrak tickets).

Welcome!

Jones LandingHello and Welcome! We’re so glad you can join us for our wedding festivities in Maine on September 19-21. We hope you’ll find everything you need on this website to make your travel plans and get the most out of your trip. There’s a lot to see and do in and around Portland, so while we are looking forward to sharing the weekend with everyone, please consider extending your trip to enjoy Maine a little longer … there’s a reason the license plate says “Vacationland.”

Why Portland? Manda’s mother, Susan Goltz, lives in Portland year-round, and with every visit we got to know – and love – Portland, and especially the Old Port arts and culture district, more and more. We also realized that Portland had the perfect combination of elements we both like: an ocean and an urban environment for Manda, and trees and plenty of outdoorsy activities for Eric. Also, Manda went to summer camp about an hour from Portland, and Eric claims to “like tidepools,” of which there are many in nearby Acadia National Park.

We hope this website will be helpful as you make your plans. Please check back often for updates as we get closer to the date. We do encourage you to make your hotel reservations early, as the hotels in the Old Port will be fully booked by May.

If you have any questions about the weekend or want a personalized recommendation on where to stay and what to do, please call or email either of us, or Susan, any time. Susan is an Old Port expert, and can help you with any questions you have.
